Job Description:

Hours: Mon - Fri, 8am - 4:30pm

Job Summary/Purpose:

Responsible for contacting healthcare facilities to request all medical records required for new patient appointments and evaluations. . Record requests can include treatment records, radiology scans, pathology reports and slides.  Job typically requires contacting numerous facilities to obtain all that is required and must be acquired under rigid time restraints. Responsibilities also include collection of requested material with high rate of accuracy, collating material in a chronological order and tagging of specific types of records and final record preparation for use and review in other departments. Knowledge of troubleshooting gaps and omissions in records also expected. Job also includes minimal administrative duties, filing and ordering of departmental supplies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Good computer skills
  • Good language and grammar skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • Knowledge of Health Information Management, Registered Health Information Technician and/or basic medical terminology preferred
  • Ability to work well with physicians and all ancillary personnel
  • Must be well-organized, accurate and precise and self-starter
  • Preferably aware of state and federal regulations regarding the release of medical information (but will train/advise if necessary)

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Essentially sedentary work, but will involve light work of lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of medical records
  • Employee may stand/walk 2 - 4 hours per day, and/or sit 4 - 6 hours per day
  • Employee will perform simple grasping, i.e. filing and retrieving charts, folders, forms, etc., fine manipulation, keyboard operation, computer, and pushing and pulling of drawers and carts.
  • Work cannot be performed one-handed
  • Good hearing required
  • Visual:  requires good vision and color perception
  • Employee will not have exposure to blood borne pathogen or other potentially infectious material
