Job Summary/Purpose:

The Patient Financial Services Advocate will have multiple primary responsibility that all are required to perform, but can be assigned specifically as needed to meet business needs. Those primary functions are:

  • Primary Function- Verification of all Non-Oncology/Oncology Pathways

    • Perform verification for all plans, including specialty benefits i.e. stem cell and make financial decision to approve or deny plans. Communicate with patient, or caregiver outcome, and relay all benefits including patient liability. Work with employer groups, insurance plans as needed for single case agreements. Work with internal and external areas to obtain or resolve insurance issues. Knowledge of authorization process, obtain as needed based on pathways.Resolve allpotential delays as needed for all pathways

  • Primary Function- Admin Exceptions

    • Assist with resolving Admin Exceptions by contacting patient, plans, employer groups, or caregivers. Research any issues or delays in regards to return patient exceptions. Assist as needed with New Patient Admin Exceptions by contacting patient, employer groups, or caregivers, Keep Knowledge current in regards to contracted payers, insurance reimbursement trends.

This role has the potential to directly impact patient capture rates and increase revenues. The Patient Financial Services Advocate serves as front line resource for the Oncology Information Specialists and prospective CTCA patients. The Patient Financial Services Advocate Specialist will be cross trained with Benefits Finance Specialist.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, and/or Finance is

  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in healthcare business office environment with focus on Insurance Coverage and/or Patient Accounts experience preferred.

  • Prefer experience in healthcare/insurance industry, specific to claims processing, benefit coverage, patient accounts, and physician/hospital insurance verification or healthcare finance.

  • Strong understanding of insurance/healthcare terminology to include ICD-10and CPT Coding is preferred.

  • Prefer experience with insurance case negotiations and familiarity with healthcare/payer contracting.

  • Familiar with Microsoft Outlook, Basic Computer Skills, and Basic Office Equipment,

  • Knowledge of financial counseling process, patient assistance programs, and charity care qualification is preferred

  • In-depth knowledge base regarding: regulatory compliance, insurance company requirements, HIPAA, FMLA, COBRA, Patient Rights, Compliance, EMTALA, Medicare and Medicaid is preferred
