Job Description:

This is a full-time role. Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 4:30 p.m.

Job Summary:

The Speech Language Pathologist is a registered professional at CTCA who delivers individualized comprehensive care to adult patients through the rehabilitation department utilizing therapeutic use of self, innovative technology and collaboration among patients. 

You are responsible for providing Dysphagia rehabilitation and speech therapy in the hospital and clinical setting to facilitate the development and rehabilitation of adult patients based on total assessment and written evaluation which is appropriate to the patient’s medical condition to achieve an optimum level of function for each patient.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs and provides speech language pathology services. This includes patient evaluations, education, documentation of treatments and outcomes, and inputs appropriate charges in compliance with the state practice act.

  • Consults with Physicians when necessary about clarification of orders, adjustments to patient treatment plans, patient outcomes and recommendations for durable medical equipment.

  • Collaborates as a member of the multidisciplinary team to provide safe, and efficiently delivery of patient care, patient education, and continuity of care.

  • Communicates with staff, family and caregivers regarding safety strategies, modifications and options for implementation of goals toward care plan goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a Master’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from an ASHA approved school of Speech and Language Pathology

  • Must have a current Speech and Language Pathologist license

  • CPR card preferred

  • 2 years oncology hospital experience preferred

  • No Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY)

  • Must be able to effectively work independently

  • Ability to work well in a team environment

         

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Job is light to heavy work, which includes frequent lifting and positioning of patients.  For greater than 50 pounds, it may be expected that the therapist will request assistance from a co-worker for lifting and positioning.

  • Ability to stand/walk 6 to 8 hours per shift.

  • Ability to frequently bend, twist, reach, stoop, grasp, push, pull and perform fine manipulation (keyboard)

  • Good visual acuity is required for patient’s assessment and documentation care.

  • Good hearing is essential for accurate patient assessment.

  • Employees will not have exposure to blood borne pathogens or other potentially infectious material
